Program Structure: Reading Foundations for 5th Graders
Session Breakdown: 25 minutes

Warm-Up
3-5 minutes

Brief check-in and review of any previous session highlights.

A fun, quick activity, such as a short word game or a question to engage the student and transition into the session smoothly.

Reading Practice
15 minutes

Guided Reading - reading a passage aloud or silently based on the parent or child's preference.

Engagement Techniques - our tutors use active reading techniques, such as: checking comprehension through questions, and encouraging predictions or summaries.

Vocabulary Building
​5 minutes

Our tutors introduce 3 New Vocabulary Words: Select words relevant to the reading passage and age-appropriate, explain meanings, context, and use each word in a sentence, and encourage the student make their own sentences, reinforcing understanding and retention.

Wrap-Up
​1-2 minutes

We recap the main points and review the new vocabulary words.

We offer a quick "takeaway" from the session, such as a question to think about or a vocabulary word challenge.
